Prayer Ministry

Jesus said that for us to enter God's Kingdom we must become as little children. The intention is for us to recognize our total dependency upon our Heavenly Father in a similar way that a small child is totally dependent on his or her earthly parents.

As a result of our dependence we all need help and Jesus made it clear that our Father is ever willing to provide our needs. All we need to do is ask and trust (Matthew 6:7-11; Philippians 4:6-7). Following the many examples in the New Testament where we are told to pray for one another, our Prayer Ministry is committed to praying for those in need who request prayer. Prayer requests are kept strictly confidential.

Worries and struggles in your life? Or just something weighing on your heart, feel free
to ask for prayer.

Card Care Ministry

Knowing that friends are praying and thinking of you during times of loss, suffering or crisis is so encouraging – especially when your circumstances prevents you from having personal contact with them.

Our Card Care ministry reaches out to such people by sending them personalized cards created by Mabel Morrison using beautiful scenes from her extensive photograph collection. Each card is signed by our members with encouraging and uplifting comments added to help support people through their various trials.

You can contact Mabel Morrison regarding the Card Care ministry by emailing her.

Tele Care Ministry

Shut-ins and those who are suffering prolonged absence from fellowship due to reasons beyond their control are cared for by our Tele-Care ministry leader, Els Verhiel, who reaches out to them via the telephone in order to provide them ongoing personal contact. Being able to hear a friendly voice and relay any needs they may have to the congregation helps people feel less vulnerable and isolated and more included in the body of the church.

For more information, please feel free to email Els Verhiel.

Open Door Ministry

Open Door ministry girl and boyLouise and girl activity in Open Door MinistryOpen Door Ministry boyOur local ministry is to reach out to single mothers and their pre-school children in the Surrey area.  Understanding the challenges and stresses of raising young children without a father, we strive to provide the mothers with a welcome weekly break from their hectic routine.  Each Saturday, from 9:30 am until 1:00 pm the mothers are given the opportunity to relax, receive encouragement, mentoring and build friendships with other single mothers, while their children are taken care of  by members of our caring staff.

We serve them breakfast snacks and the children are provided play time and crafts, with outdoor activities when the weather permits, and a nutritious lunch is served before they leave.  A clothing exchange is also available and, for any mothers who may be interested, we provide them the opportunity for a discussion on spiritual and life issues.

Our Open Door is part of a ministry project that began 30 years ago in North Vancouver and now has chapters in North and East Vancouver, Abbotsford, Surrey and Squamish.

Our ministry involves 24 member volunteers, some working with the children, others with the mothers, and others working in the kitchen and the clothing bank. Our prayer is that God will help us serve these mothers and children with the love and concern of Christ that will be a support and help for them in their time of need.
